St. John's 3K education focuses on making each child a well-rounded human. As children enter preschool age, their minds become more inquisitive and they are ready to learn through exploration and play. Our preschool program focuses on the following areas: social skills such as sharing with friends and solving problems, recognizing and identifying numbers, shapes, colors and letters, washing hands, getting oneself dressed for outside play, enjoying outdoor time, and age-appropriate activities that foster pre-reading and pre-math skills.
2 days/week: $70
3 days/week: $100
4 or 5 days/week: $125
Students in our 4K classroom learn through play and activities. Our students are like sponges - they are adventurous and smart. They like to imagine, experiment, and play with friends. Our warm and welcoming environment allows students to thrive. Time in 4K is spent exploring educational centers, engaging in free play, participating in whole group activities, and learning through lessons focused on reading and math readiness. Social emotional learning is embedded into the classroom culture and students learn to communicate and regulate their big feelings.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students participate in our Superkids Reading Program. This comprehensive English language arts curriculum uses evidence-based literacy practices to ensure students are ready to read to learn in 3rd grade. This is a phonics-based curriculum that both students and teachers love.
At the 3rd and 4th grade level, St. John's uses a cross-curricular approach to reading and language arts. The Reading Street curriculum covers many different reading strategies, concurrent with Wisconsin state standards. In addition to using this program, students also meet with their teacher in guided reading groups throughout the week. This reading time, also known as lit circles, allows for differentiated instruction. Accelerated Reader is a software program that is used as a motivational tool to help students experience different reading genres at their individual reading level.
Reading Street also gives students the opportunity to learn about and create writing pieces in a varity of genres, including narrative, expository, letter writing, poetry, and research writing.
Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade use the Progress in Mathematics curriculum from Sadlier. This curriculum provides rigorous content focused on building deep conceptual understanding of key math skills and concepts at each grade level. Importance is placed on higher-order thinking skills and knowing math vocabulary.
Every math lesson begins with a "Number Talk" which allows students to explain, extend, and evaluate different strategies to solve a problem. Math manipulatives are used to assist in comprehension of a concept.
Math Boxes are used at younger grade levels to reinforce basic math concepts and provide opportunities for students to master skills that will be needed in future math lessons.

Students participate in religion classes starting in our 4K classroom. Prayer is an everyday activity. Our students attend Mass every Friday. During Mass, students participate in various liturgical tasks including serving, reading, & presenting gifts. Our Catholic values, teachings, and traditions provide the foundation for our school. Various service projects are completed through the course of the school year.
In 2nd grade, students will experience First Reconciliation and First Communion. Students receive a book with each sacrament that goes home every week. Parents are encouraged to take time and review the book with their child. They are children of God and being a part of this experience with them is something that both parents and children will remember for a lifetime!
